MCM LawMarcus, Clegg & Mistretta, P.A. was founded on March 1, 1996, as Marcus, Grygiel & Clegg, P.A.. It was organized by George J. Marcus, Stephen G. Grygiel, and Jennie Clegg, three former partners of Maine's largest law firm. Shortly thereafter, Lynn Mistretta left a secure job at a prominent Maine law firm and joined our firm. At the time, that might not have looked like a smart career move for Lynn, but getting the legal talent that Lynn added was great for the firm. Now, everyone -- even Lynn -- thinks that her addition to the firm was inspirational, and we consider her to be one of the founding partners. On July 1, 2000, we changed the name of the firm to Marcus, Clegg & Mistretta, in order to reflect Lynn's outstanding professional achievements and stature in the legal community, as well as Steve's retirement from the full time private practice of law.

The founding partners organized the firm because we believed that in the environment we wanted to create, we could do a more effective job representing corporate and commercial clients, derive greater satisfaction from doing so, and make more money -- or at least keep more of the money we made. All of this has turned out to be true, and our clients have recognized the value that the firm has added to their businesses. The firm now employs ten lawyers in all phases of corporate and commercial law, including mergers, acquisitions, financings, reorganizations and restructuring, creditors and debtor's rights, bankruptcy, construction law, commercial litigation, and other related fields. We have a "hands on" practice. We get involved with our clients' businesses. We use our expertise and experience in a practical and common sense way. We effectively employ cutting edge technologies. When clients call us, they can count on getting prompt and practical answers that actually work. It is often reported to us by our clients (and sometimes by our opponents) that a ten minute call with one of us is worth hours spent with others. We are proud of that. That is what we are trying to accomplish. It probably means that we have fewer billable hours with each client, but we have time for more clients, and that is how it is supposed to work.
